For as long as I can remember, I knew that working with hair would be my destiny. Early in my career I had the good fortune to encounter a mentor -- an amazing hairdresser who inspired me, enlightened me and became a great friend. My mentor taught me this mantra for success: professionalism, education and technique. I let those three words guide me to this day. They're always at the top of my mind, when I'm working with clients, models and with my colleagues as a Matrix Artistic Director. I believe that excellence is within everyone's reach. Start by combining healthy portions of love, desire and determination. Then practice, as much and as often as you possibly can. Keep your mind open. Learn. Then you can do everything and anything that you set out to do.
I never thought about being a hairdresser -- I actually started cutting my own hair because I wasn't happy with the way the barber did it. That led to cutting my friends' hair, and members of my family, because I could, but I still didn't look at it as a career. In high school, the mom of one of my friends was a stylist and she talked me into working for her as an apprentice. To this day, I'm grateful to her for steering me in the right direction! Once I started doing hair for her, I never stopped. If anyone had told me that I would be onstage, speaking to huge groups of hairdressers, I would have told them they were crazy. But it happened, and I love it! And I owe it all to my mentors, who have guided me to places I never imagined I would go!

I grew up in the beauty business. My mother was a stylist for 40 years and I watched and learned from her creativity every day. Today, I'm inspired by my clients, my colleagues and the progressive sensibilities of European fashion. I'm always excited by a new design, a new shape, a new texture, a new palette. I'm always on the lookout for the flair! I own my own salon and I work behind the chair, and I think that enables me to really understand what salon owners and stylists encounter each day and what they need to help them grow and find inspiration. Matrix is the perfect platform for sharing that inspiration -- the company has an incredible creative synergy and an exciting vision. They encourage me to take everything I do to the next level and to help make a difference in the careers of every stylist I encounter.

I come from a family of hairdressers my father was a top stylist in London. I worked for him and for Vidal Sassoon. I was always ambitious but my career has taken me on a journey that I couldn't possibly have imagined. I've owned salons, conducted shows and classes for my colleagues around the world, worked with celebrities and royalty and seen my work published in magazines like Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Cosmopolitan and ELLE. I've had the thrill of winning three NAHA Avant Garde Awards and qualifying as a finalist nine times. There have been highs and lows for sure, but I've learned from, and loved, every moment. Most important--my career has always allowed me to be as creative as I can be, and to make a difference in hairdressers' lives by helping them grow as artists and make their dreams come true.

My career began in the medical field, where I worked in a hospital operating room in NYC. I loved the fascinating chemistry of the human body as well as making people feel better. However, it all changed when a patient passed away during surgery -- I knew then that this was no longer the profession for me. Until I figured out what else I wanted to do, my mom suggested I work at a friend's salon doing nails. It was then that my friend advised me to go to beauty school. From the moment I worked on my first mannequin, it was love at first retouch. It all came very naturally to me, and my passion led me in the direction of color. The chemistry still intrigued me, but this time it was about hair. Looking back, I am grateful to my Mom for supporting my dreams, allowing me to soar to heights I never imagined. My passion for hairdressing is even stronger today than the day I did my first retouch, and it just keeps getting better!

Award-Winning Hair Expert and Matrix Global Design Team. Paul Falltrick has over 30 years’ hairdressing experience, earning him the reputation as one of the most sought after stylists in the industry. During his career spanning three decades, Paul Falltrick has headed up a successful salon and world-renowned academy, amassed a string of industry accolades plus been called upon by leading global brands. With parents whose background was firmly rooted in hairdressing, you would be forgiven for thinking that a future behind the chair would always be Paul’s calling. However, it was only after being heavily coerced into doing a stint as a Saturday boy in his dad’s salon aged just 14 that he saw himself on the floor. Much to his surprise he found the experience so enjoyable that it wasn’t long before he decided to swap his school studies for shampoo and headed down to top London salon John Frieda where he began working as an assistant to Nicky Clarke. From Vogue and David Bailey shoots, to appearances on GMTV, Paul learned his trade by working with some of the biggest names in the business, which set his career off to a flying start. By the time Paul returned to work at his dad’s salon 5 years later, his reputation for session work, cutting and long hair had rocketed and he was soon snapped up by a hair brand to do shoots and shows across the country. After being hand-picked to join the prestigious F.A.M.E (The Fellowship Academy of Merit and Excellence) team in 1996, just one-year later Paul was crowned Eastern Hairdresser of the Year which saw his industry status soar, however Paul was just getting started! Despite already having achieved fantastic success, with a burning desire to bring his hairdressing techniques worldwide and control his own destiny, in 2002 Paul decided to push his career to the next level. With product development work for Matrix’s next major launch, countless trips to America and Europe, appearances at acclaimed industry exhibitions and plans to take his unique cutting system across the pond to L.A all in the pipeline, the future certainly looks bright for Paul. What’s more, further plans to expand ‘Paul Falltrick Creative’, mean there will scarcely be a free date in the diary. And with Paul’s attitude, exceptional talent, reputation and passion for perfection, this new stage in his career is set to be even more successful than the last.
I discovered quite early that I was ambitious and tenacious. That's why I left home at 17, determined to make it. At the University of Puerto Rico, I worked as a bus boy and a waiter, and even cleaned bathrooms to put myself through school. I intended to become a special education teacher. Then I returned to New York City, where a friend offered me a job in his salon and helped me get into beauty school. Once I got my license, I developed a passion for Matrix and Logics. I was hooked! I joined the company as an Artistic Educator and worked my way up to Artistic Director. Today I feel that my life is all I ever imagined it to be and more. I've fused my two passions -- education and hairdressing. I wake up every day loving what I do, and life just doesn't get any better than that!

I was drawn to the opportunities that the beauty industry offered. I realized that I could be financially rewarded and artistically inspired at the same time. I learned early on that success starts with focusing on the job at hand and doing it to the best of your ability. First I focused on being the best stylist I could be and that led to the opportunity to become a salon owner. By developing and mentoring my salon staff, I developed the skill set to become a platform artist and educator. Its all about setting goals and then letting those goals lead you like signs along the road. Just be sure to stop and enjoy your journey along the way! At this point, I have been on my journey for almost 20 years, and it's still every bit as fresh and fun as it was on my first day of beauty school.
